Miraculous Modalities

The definition of a miraculous event has definitely changed since biblical times. Whether or not you believe that the planet and its life forms were created in seven days, we all certainly realize the difference between the magnitude of the former and the latter occurrence, dubbed the 'Do You Believe in Miracles?' contest when the US Olympic hockey team prevailed over the heavily favored USSR contingent in the 1980 Lake Placid games.

Music has also had its share of inexplicable occurrences (divinely inspired and otherwise), including the late Whitney Houston's 'Miracle' recorded...and memorialized on film... in 1991. The departed diva was quoted then as saying"...I think about our children...I think they are miracles and we should try to take better care of them." The second half of the accompanying eponymous video depicted children growing up, winning a competition, graduating from school, and enjoying their fulfilling adult lives. The miraculous modality ended with pictures of children smiling.

Where is this exposition leading? The path we're traveling will connect the dots between TV Azteca's 'Mexico Baila' competition and the Club de Ninos y Ninas Seccion Rosarito. The possibility of a modern day miracle is there (and is achievable) if the people of the state of Baja California...and their neighbors... continue their support of this improbable, if not impossible, dream.

To review, the Rosarito club was chosen as the worthy cause that would be Baja's beneficiary if they prevailed against 26 causa nobles chosen by the other competing states. The finely honed...through a week's intensive choreography rehearsals... baile masivo routine, performed on the beach adjacent to the iconic Rosarito Beach Hotel, garnered enough votes to prevail in Round I and propel the locals to a date-with-destiny (versus Veracruz and Coahuila) on the internationally televised competition.

Logistics will play a large part in whether Rosarito continues to advance. The semifinal performance was scheduled to be filmed in Playas de Tijuana on July 26th, after another week of intensive rehearsals at both ocean front venues. Buses were commandeered to take the dancers from convenient locations to the selected grabacion site. By the way, don't forget that dancing on sand is not an easy task (especially when the filming can take upwards of five hours).

When will the possibly penultimate show of 'Mexico Baila' benefiting the home team be aired on TV Azteca International Trece? Based on the dates of the initial three-on-three competitions, Saturday night August 10th (from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM) will be the Rosarito's next semi-final round.

How can readers assure that their favorites move on to the finals (the final three-on-threecompetencia will net the winning team ONE MILLION pesos)? Most importantly, the key is text messaging votes to 33555 BAJA early and often. The opening of the polls to accept these votes is Wednesday, August 7th. This is where the close-to-the- border location is a definite advantage. Many of the expatriate supporters have connections in the United States and Canada who, based on the first round experiences, will call in their many votes, too. This was probably one of the major factors in the Round One B.C. victory.

Miracles do happen, yes indeed. If everyone who is a fan of the state, the city of Rosarito, and the local Boys and Girls Club votes, this could be one of those miraculous occurrences. Like Whitney Houston sang about children in general, "...I wonder if I could be your miracle."
